A Bit About Jan
Jan is a children's author in Scotland with a heart for kids and a background in fostering. When she's not writing, Jan works as a Pain Reduction Therapist. Her debut book, "Marty's Great Adventure," gently explores how children cope with loss or separation from a parent. Drawing upon her many years of experience in fostering, she writes with the aim of helping children to heal from separation and loss as well as navigating the many challenges life throws at us.
Her books give parents, carers, teachers or social workers a story to start conversations which she
hopes will lead to a better understanding, that what happens TO a child, is not their fault. She sees
so many adults in her clinic who have carried a trauma from childhood. Many times it's a trauma
which the child could have had no influence over - a divorce, death, a parent leaving the household
or the child being taken into foster care. All of which are very traumatic and if not spoken about at
length, till the child has processed what has happened, and understand that it's not their fault,
they can and often do, carry that trauma into adulthood.
When not writing or working, Jan also enjoys pottery and can often be found teaching people wheel throwing. A mother of four grown-up children, she shares her countryside home with her cat, Oscar.
